In February and March 2007, the Advisory Council discussed and recommended that the Home Owners Association hire off duty Ft. Worth Police officers to patrol in the Villages of Woodland Springs on a regular basis.  The HOA accepted the recommendation and police officers were hired.  In coordination with SBB Management, the police officers were to conduct extra patrols on days and during times of most frequent criminal activity, in the neighborhood.  Criminal activity in VOWS was (and continues to be) mostly vandalism committed by unsupervised youths.  It was decided to have these patrols conducted during the months that the pools were open and during the December Holiday season, as these were the times when most of the vandalism was experienced.

In May the Advisory Council discussed and recommended that additional (non-police) security officers be hired to monitor activity at the pools, when the pools were open.  The HOA accepted the recommendation and these officers were hired.

This dual pronged approach of the police officers and the security guards has been very successful and a dramatic decrease in vandalism and disruptive behavior at the pools was evident.

In July, the Safety and Security Chair had resigned, leaving a vacancy.  In August, David Davidson accepted the nomination as the new chair of the Safety and Security Committee and was appointed by a vote of the full Advisory Council. Marc Valenti and Fred Weeks also volunteered to serve on this committee.

Since the budget process was already in motion and since the Safety and Security Committee were playing catch up, no new budget request was submitted.  However, the Safety and Security Committee have been researching other viable security patrol options.  At the present there will be no extra patrols by Ft. Worth Police Officers until the December Holidays.  The Safety and Security Committee will be continuing to monitor crime statistics in the neighborhood and coordinating with the Ft. Worth Police and Code Blue volunteers to provide security for the neighborhood.
