ZIP CODE CHANGE COMING SOON
Community Meeting October 27th 7pm
Heritage Church of Christ
Zip code change is coming but the type of change will soon be up to the residents of north Fort Worth.
As everyone has noticed, the north Fort Worth area has grown substantially over the last few years. Our current mail delivery for north Fort Worth is handled as a rural route through the Keller Post Office causing all of the mailing addresses to read “Keller, TX 76248”, regardless of whether we actually live in the city of Keller.
Due to the recent growth the Keller Post Office has reached a critical point and must consider adding a new zip code for the north Fort Worth service area. However, this situation does provide a glimmer of hope, the U. S. Postal Service would also consider adding a new facility in the north Fort Worth area*, possibly near I-35. This new facility would also require a new zip code in addition the mail would bear the correct name of “Fort Worth, TX”.
In order to get this new facility the Post Office will send out survey cards in the coming months to everyone one currently in the 76248 north Fort Worth service area. It is very important that these survey cards be filled out and returned otherwise . . . No new Post Office. The Post Office will only do this study once every TEN YEARS, so this is important!
An informational Community Meeting will be held at the Heritage Church of Christ 4201 Heritage Trace Pkwy on October 27 at 7:00 pm hosted by the North Fort Worth Alliance and local HOA’s. Cristi Lemon and Ardina Washington from the City of Fort Worth Economic & Community Development Department will be in attendance and you will have the opportunity to find out more information and ask questions.
FAQ’s…
Q. How will this affect my school district?
A. No change what so ever, the Keller ISD boundaries are set as regional boundaries and are not determined by zip code or city boundaries. We are all KISD and will remain so.
Q. Will this change my home value?
A. NO. As any real estate agent will tell you it is the neighborhood you are in and the school district you belong to that determines value and desirability for your area, thus the growth surge on the Fort Worth side of 76248.
Q. What will this do to my home owners insurance?
A. Well there is good news there too. The City of Fort Worth’s Fire Dept has a Property Protection Class (PPC), Insurance Service Organization (ISO) rating of an outstanding 2. This is compared to the City of Keller which has a rating of 4, which means that Fort Worth has a better PPC ISO rating. And thus a Fort Worth resident will have a better chance of keeping their home owners insurance rate low on that aspect. Most insurance companies already go by your physical street address and the proper city in which you are located already, but if not it is a good idea to make sure that your agent knows that you live in FORT WORTH!
Q. What about our economic growth and retail?
A. At the last North Fort Worth Alliance meeting the Hillwood Company addressed the residents and revealed future plans for the Alliance Town Center and discussed other areas of growth in north Fort Worth. They discovered that companies who were interested in the area decided to locate their business here because it was Fort Worth. Companies have even requested that they have a “Fort Worth” mailing address when considering our area. And it is economic growth that helps stabilize home values.
Q. What about 911 service?
A. This is probably the main reason any one took an interest in the issue of a Keller mailing address in the city of Fort Worth. Only Fort Worth emergency response can respond to calls made in Fort Worth. Due to 911 caller confusion many injuries have been delayed in getting emergency response as has happened in many cases of children’s injuries at KISD schools which are located in Fort Worth. A proper Fort Worth zip code can potentially save a life and end 911 confusion once and for all.
Q. What if I vote NO on the survey will I still have to change zip codes?
A. Unfortuniately that is a very real possibility regardless of the survey out come due to the population growth of the Fort Worth area in 76248. The Keller Post Office facility can not sustain its current levels and will have to make changes. Since 76248 is a “Keller” zip code and north Fort Worth is considered a rural route of 76248, Fort Worth will not retain the 76248 as a result of a potential Keller zip code split and will be given a new zip. So there may be a change but with out the benefits of having a Fort Worth zip code.
