Pool Committee Meeting May 1, 2009
Marc Valenti, Frank Friar, Kelly Skellie, Gary Honaker
Gary Honaker has joined the pool subcommittee and Lana Sikora has resigned from the pool subcommittee.
The committee discussed and reviewed the bids from the pool service companies. We are currently without a contract and want to have a contract in place as soon as possible. Our current provider, Roberts Pool Company failed to have the pools open and ready for the residents on opening day, May 1st at 10am. On that day, one pool was not opened until after 2pm and three of the other pools were not clean enough to allow healthy swimming. We were very fortunate because the weather has not been ideal for swimmers so the complaints have been few.
The committee members have selected pools in their area and will do frequent inspections to ensure we monitor all issues before they become major problems. Some of the reported problems found to date are water overflow, pool water too high, seepage under the cool deck of the swimming area, dirty pools, dirty and full skimmer baskets and general disrepair to the bricks and tiles in the pools.
The pool committee is recommending to the HOA advisory committee that, for a one year trial basis, all the bathrooms at the parks be left open year round and all the swimming pools, except for Woodland Springs (slide) pool be left open year round. These recommendations are in response to numerous requests from VOWS homeowners. Access to bathrooms year round accommodates the needs of residents who use the various recreational facilities at the parks throughout the year. In addition, numerous homeowners have requested that use of swimming pools be available year round. Five of the six swimming pools will be left open. Woodland Springs (slide) pool cannot be left open for use unless life guards are present (a requirement of the law involving the slide itself) and meeting this requirement year round is too cost prohibitive. In past years, there has been significant vandalism in and around the bathrooms at the parks, most significantly damage to the door frames. The pool committee will monitor these areas monthly to evaluate the impact year round access has on vandalism.
The Slide Pool opens May 23 at Noon and will stay open until 8pm throughout the Memorial Day weekend. It will re-open on Saturday and Sunday May 30 and 31st and then close again until Friday June 5th. It will then remain open on a daily basis from Noon until 8pm through August 23, 2009. The Slide Pool can only open when we have lifeguards posted. Therefore, the hours were determined based on school closing and opening dates.
The Amenity Center Pool has had the shade awnings installed. The company that installed them did stain some of the cool decking and Anita with SBB is trying to get them to correct the situation.
