Woodland Springs Pools Open May 2nd

Summer is right around the corner and that means swimming season has begun! To inform residents about the 2008 pool season, the HOA mailed all residents a packet of pool reference information. This packet lists the pool rules and regulations, hours of operation for each of the various pools and also explains how to obtain a pool access card.

Residents must be current on any HOA dues in order to utilize the pool facilities. Existing access cards will work when the pool opens and residents do not need to obtain a new card. If you have lost your card, are a new resident or need additional cards, please stop by SBB’s onsite office at 12301 Woodland Springs Drive to obtain your cards.

Special early morning swim access is available from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the Lamington pool. Persons requesting special access with need to stop by the on-site off for cards to be programmed.

Wishing you a safe and happy swimming season!

Community Garage Sale is May 2nd, 3rd & 4th

The Community Calendar Committee is pleased to announce May 2-4 as dates for the spring community wide garage sale. These dates are firm and the sales will occur on these dates, regardless of weather. This is an excellent opportunity to do some spring cleaning.

Reminders and suggestions:

Get your permit for hosting your sale from the City of Fort Worth. All residents are required to obtain city approval and are limited to two garage sales per year.

Call the Salvation Army to coordinate pick up of remaining items. The Committee has coordinated pickup of items on Tuesday, May 6th. Residents that have donations must call the Salvation Army on or before May 5th at 800-958-7825 to be added to the May 6th pick up route. Items should be clearly marked for their pickup.

Bulk trash week is May 4th. Everything that is not sold or donation quality can be left out for bulk trash pick up during the first week of May.

As always, the Committee will coordinate advertisements in the Keller Citizen and the Fort Worth Star Telegram as well as entry signage. With successful sales, making donations and bulk trash removal, your spring cleaning should be complete!

Spring Garage Sale – Pick Your Date

Several residents have inquired on dates for the spring garage sale. Naturally, we do not want to have our garage sale when other large communities are conducting theirs. Additionally, too early in the spring can mean higher chances of rain. If you have a preference on when the garage sale is, submit your suggested dates.

Free Trees for our Community, Success!

The Villages of Woodland Springs Landscape Committee, in an effort to make our neighborhood greener, applied to the City of Fort Worth Tree Grant program to obtain free trees for Bray Birch Drive in the Villages of Woodland Springs. The lack of shade along this thoroughfare in the summer is noticeable.  As a result the Villages of Woodland Springs came in 12th on the priority list and was awarded 100 trees for this location. In January the developer paid for 33 trees to be picked up at the cities tree farm and transported back to Bray Birch Drive for planting along the parkway. This first selection of trees was composed of native varieties: 11 Live Oaks, 11 Southern Red Oaks and 11 Bur Oaks.  They are of a good size with approximately 3' trunks and 8 to 12 feet tall, in fact you may have noticed them already!

These trees are only available during the planting season which runs from November to mid March.  The remaining 67 trees awarded to the Villages of Woodland Springs can be picked up in subsequent planting seasons when more funds are available for transportation and planting. The Landscape Committee has been reaching out to find additional funds through community partners such as the local school districts.

In addition to Bray Birch Drive, the Landscape Committee will be applying to this same program again for additional streets to receive trees along community parkways that feed into the Villages of Woodland Springs villages. Look for more news as the program progresses and if you know of any community partners that would be willing to donate funds for this effort please contact us at vows.landscape@gmail.com or our contact section of the homeowners’ association web site.

More info on the CFW Free Tree Program

The Committee would like to extend a special thanks to Mehrdad Moayedi, Villages of Woodland Springs developer for funding the transportation and planting of the initial delivery of 33 trees.  If it were not for his generosity this program may not have begun this season.  Thank you from all the members of the Landscape Committee!

Updates on Rodent Control Program in the Villages of Woodland Springs

When the construction of Independence Elementary School commenced in 2005, residents contacted property management about rodents in the neighborhood. Shortly thereafter, SBB Management instituted a rodent control program that included placing bait boxes along Bray Birch by a licensed Board Certified Entomologist. The problem subsided but occasionally flared up.

Each time SBB was notified of new rodent problems or concerns, additional steps were taken to further enhance the existing control program. Recently, there have been concerns about rodents in the community. Though the neither the City of Fort Worth nor Keller ISD had received any complaints, SBB did receive new complaints and met with concerned homeowners. The good news was that the complaints involved dead rats, which means the program has been working. But as a precautionary and preventative step, SBB has made even further improvements in January to their control program, which includes treating the burrows.

While we had the experts on site, we obtained suggestions for rodent prevention for residents. A separate article in this newsletter, titled "Expert suggestions for rodent prevention" was provided compliments of J. Scott Smith, Certified Entomologist and Senior Technical Representative with Bell Laboratories, Inc.

If you have concerns about rodents in our community, please do not hesitate to notify management though the Homeowners' Association web site or contact SBB Management directly at 817-741-1719.

New Watering Restrictions by Fort Worth City Council

On Tuesday, Dec 4, the Fort Worth City Council approved year-round restrictions on lawn watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.  The ordinance amendments allow locking out in-ground irrigation systems as an enforcement option. There is an administrative fee associated with removal of the device. The fee would be $25 for the first offense, $50 for the second offense and $75 for the third offense. Multiple violations could result in lock out as well as a citation. The fee would be added to the customer’s water bill. There is also a process for appealing the administrative fee.

Queens of the Springs Cookie Exchange

The "Queens of the Springs" women's group was started in 2005 with originally about 30 members and quickly grew to 70 over the years, although we have never had everyone together at one time. The "Queens" are all about making life long friends here in the surrounding neighborhoods and our motto is having FUN. We enjoy getting together for different parties, especially the annual cookie exchange, which always turns out to be a great time!

When we started out we wore Boa's & Crowns to our gatherings which seemed to just enhance the silliness, which we are ALL about!  Although not required at each event, we would like continue the "Queen" spirit in which we have such fond memories. It has been a while since we have gathered so this upcoming event has been long overdue.

We would like to extend the invitation to join the "Queens of the Springs" to those ladies that like to have fun and meet new people. If you like to bake, contact us for more info.

Hope to see many new faces at the third annual Christmas Cookie and Gift Exchange this year!

Feel free to contact Liz Bateman or Michele Stogsdill for more information and to have your email address listed on our mailing lists for other upcoming events.
